the more i develop demetrius, the more of a dreadful human being he becomes
(cut for nasty stuff)
his relationship with othello is just becoming more and more unhealthy
they started as simple childhood friends turned lovers but progressed into this one-sided infatuation and now even further still into something i would not be wrong in calling abusive
i don’t want to make dmitri a pure antagonist, for if i were to write an actual story for these two, he would be the narrator, but he’s not what i would call a protagonist
he has a lot of mommy issues, never knew his dad, his uncle posed as his dad for years, and his mom was bipolar and not well medicated. dmitri basically lived as her butler and catered to her every whim. he became very guarded and used that ‘armor’ to basically absorb various personality traits, traits he switched on and off depending on the situation. he could be one person around one group of people and an entirely different person around the next
the only constant in his life has been othello, and since he knows that othello is not going anywhere, he kind of uses it to his advantage
he basically manipulates him
he takes up all of his pent up rage and anger and hurt and takes it out on him, and then afterwards when othello is hurt and angry and scared and upset, says ‘i didn’t mean it, you won’t leave will you? i love you’
and he knows as long as he says those three words (i love you) othello will forget about everything and will continue to stick around as his punching bag
he was so scared of growing up alone without him that he manipulated othello into enduring horrible pain for the rest of his life as a vampire without even really telling him what it involved
dmitri i liked you better when you had no personality…
